Registration
2007-05-18¡¡

It may be necessary to register your qualification as a nurse in other countries before working there. This may be a lengthy process and may require an examination. Contact the registration authority of the country in which you will be working to see what their requirements are (address may be obtained by writing to the records and registration department (Overseas) at the NMC).

If you trained as a nurse outside the UK and wish to work in the UK, submit with details on registration and other useful information on nursing in the UK.

You may need to produce a verification of registration from the NMC. If this is required, write to the NMC (address below) for an application form. All verifications cost ¡ê34. This covers up to 5 verifications at the point of original request.

For those working overseas on a voluntary basis and in countries where there is no system of nurse registration, employment is based on UK registration (i.e. NMC). It is therefore necessary to maintain registration whilst abroad. Contact the NMC for further details.

It should be remembered that PREP applies to all those nurses registered with the NMC, including those working overseas.
