Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is a unique place - where practice, scholarship, and teaching combine in ways that are not simply additive. Through these aspects of our work, faculty, students and alumnae/i are making a real difference in each of our communities; at Yale, in New Haven, and in society at large.

Established in 1923, YSN has become a leading school of nursing in the U.S. It enjoys a national and international reputation for excellence in teaching, research and clinical practice. Currently, it is ranked in the top ten among "Best Graduate Schools of Nursing in America" by the U.S. News and World Report, with several of our master's specialties ranked in the top five by that publication. It is also ranked sixth among nursing institutions that have received support for research, training and fellowship activities from the National Institutes of Health.

The educational experience at YSN builds on a faculty known for its scholarship and clinical excellence, a diverse and outstanding student body, and the resources of Yale University, one of the world's leading research institutions. All of our students learn to deliver care and to make managerial decisions that are both evidence-based and patient-centered, and develop skills as members of interdisciplinary teams.

The school offers a Master of Science in Nursing degree with nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, and nurse midwifery specialties. The Graduate Entry Prespecialty in Nursing (GEPN) program is designed for those who hold baccalaureate degrees but have no previous nursing education. YSN also has a Doctor of Nursing Science (DNSc) program, established in 1994, an articulated MSN/DNSc option, and pre-and post-doctoral training programs. Beginning in January 2006, YSN will also be preparing leaders in nursing management and policy, enabling them to address quality and safety issues at the organizational and systems levels.

YSN graduates have gone on to assume leadership positions around the world. As alumnae/i they remain active in school life and dedicated to furthering the school's mission, "better health care for all people." For YSN students, this extensive network of resources provides further opportunities for collaboration with some of the top leaders in nursing and allied health sciences, and unique pathways to improving quality of life locally and around the world.
